Coloured micro surfacing techniques are an effective means by which the safety and visibility of pavement surfaces in designated zones can be enhanced to improve durability and community safety.
Over the past few years highways and city streets in communities across North America have been implementing Preventative Maintenance Programs designed to increase the life cycle of our road networks and to increase pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety
Micro Surfacing is one of the processes commonly used to extend the durability of a pavement surface. Recent technological developments now make this antiskid surfacing product available in COLOUR, which offers additional safety benefits. Cornell Construction Limited is the source for this innovative approach to safety and prevention.
Specifically, as illustrated in the pictures, there is an opportunity to enhance community safety by adding colour to such places as bicycle lanes, traffic calming zones in front of schools, on emergency lanes, parking lot walking paths as well as crosswalks and even golf courses, as it draws immediate attention to these areas.
The product itself, micro surface, offers one of the highest skid resistant and lowest wearing surfaces available today. It is a special mixture of selected aggregates and a clear polymer binder base that can be created permanently and consistently in almost any colour. Polymers in the mixture ensure high flexibility which helps to prevent cracking and general resistance to aging. The polymer also helps to firmly hold the aggregate suspended throughout the emulsion and therefore the hard stone is held at the surface longer. This anti-skid and high visibility feature sets it apart from other seal surfaces.
